With no waiters and food served in cardboard containers, Mighty Quinn's Barbecue in Clifton is not our usual candidate for a review. But neither is it your everyday barbecue joint.
JENNIFER BROWN/SPECIAL TO THE RECORD
The dining room.
Its slow-smoked meat is finished with high-end Maldon sea salt and heaped with tart pickled celery and chilies to cut the barbecue's richness. The pitmaster, Hugh Mangum, is a French Culinary Institute graduate who once worked with such demanding fine-dining chefs as Jean-Georges Vongerichten. And in the last three years, Mighty Quinn's has gone from a wildly popular food festival stand in Brooklyn to a growing empire of barbecue restaurants in the metropolitan area. We wanted to see whether its outsized reputation in New York was also deserved at the Clifton location, its first outpost in New Jersey.
